Dr A. Paventhan received his M.Tech Computer Applications from IIT Delhi and PhD in Computer Engineering from University of Southampton., UK. He is currently Senior Director (R&D)/Scientist-G, heading R&D Division of ERNET India and head of the ERNET regional centre at IIT Madras Research Park.  He held scientific and research positions in the National Informatics Centre (NIC), New Delhi, C-DAC, Bangalore and Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL), Oxfordshire, UK. 

He has over 25+ years’ experience in experimental research and development in the technology areas of Internet of Things (IoT), Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), Network Protocols (IPv6), Software Defined Networking, Visible Light Communications / LiFi, Tactile Internet, Grid computing, High Performance Computing (HPC), Geographical Information Systems (GIS).

He is Senior Member IEEE, Senior Member ACM, Member ITU-T, Internet Society, Member of BIS LITD sectional committees, Telecom Development Society of India (TSDSI) contributing to Rural Broadband Services Architecture (RBSA).
